This one is for the girls! Today we’re talking about Galentine’s Day – one of the best reasons to get together and celebrate your girl friends! Galentine’s Day is a newer tradition (created by the infamous Leslie Knope of Parks and Rec) that has been a staple ever since the episode aired. Now, it is know as a day to express your love and gratitude for all of your girl friends.

With that said, here are our tips for throwing the best Galentine’s Day with your girls!

Gather your group

First things first, you need to create a guest list of all your favorite ladies and let them know. The official date of Galentine’s Day is February 13th (the day before Valentine’s Day.) So make sure they know you have a day planned.

Choose your Venue

Leslie Knope hosted her Galentine’s Day in the form of brunch – lots of champagne, waffles, and sweets. Brunch at a restaurant is always a great idea, but you could also do a chill wine night at home and put on some of your favorite classic movies.

Lean into the theme

The best part of hosting events like these is having fun with it! Take the theme of Galentine’s day and run with it! We’re talking everything ultra girlie and love themed – heart shaped cookies, pink signature drinks, heart shaped sunglasses, etc. Make it your own and make it fun!

Play your favorite music

Make a playlist that includes classic, upbeat friendship-themed tunes like Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family” and Queen’s “You’re My Best Friend.” Caution: Listen responsibly. “The Wind Beneath My Wings” may cause intense feels.

Play gal games

Leslie Knope includes storytelling as part of her Galentine’s Day tradition. You can do that. Or you can play slumber party-esque games such as “Never Have I Ever.” Or organize a game of Pictionary or charades.

No matter what you decide to do with your Galentine’s Day, be sure to have fun with it and make it represent your group of girls as a whole. After all, celebrating your group is the whole point of the holiday!
